A short one today. I have on, in the background, Jurassic Park. It was just this weekend a friend of mine was telling me about how she was helping her daughter with her university applications. I remember doing this ten years ago! This makes me feel old.
The thing that really made me sit up and take notice though was the fact I remember going to the cinema with a few friends to watch Jurassic Park. I should have just left the memory as it was but I thought about it a it more and came to realize that it was in 1993, 15 years ago!
It's not a bad feeling (I mean I don't feel ancient or anything) it's just slightly surreal that a blockbuster I went to see is now a graveyard shift time filler used to mark time before an extended infomercial is put on for insomniacs who just don't have enough JML in their lives....

you have a kid?
i'm feeling oh so old too :( i think i should have had a kid a few years ago or something. its going to be so tough the older i get (I'm nearing my thirties). sigh. fasting always brings out the heightened self pitying and contemplation.
LOL! No, I don't have a kid.
I don't think nearing your thirties (as I, too, am) makes you old at all. It's all down to how you feel and I'm willing to bet on the days you're not fasting, you're running around like a teenager! =)
Well I'm 31 and can still do most of the things that I could do at 25, so don't give up hope. I don't even own any velcro fastened shoes yet. It's like I'm defying time!
I do tut at teenagers' rowdy behaviour sometimes but, you know, I never used to behave like that in my day.
None of us are old, but the passage of time can be quite startling. I thought the original of Utah Saints' Something Good came out in 1995 - it turns out it was 1991!
What is JML?
Graham, I quite agree, teenagers now-a-days behave in a manner that would be totally inappropriate in my day.... good ol' rose tinted glasses! Perhaps it's time to buy a pipe and smoking jacket.
Ariane, you pick what may well be the worst song to make that point. Watching the music video with my brother I had to:
1)admit that I did indeed remember the original
2)explain to him the subtleties of the 'running man'
3)tell him that I have vauge memories of Donald Sutherland in Kate Bush's cloud busting video
JML spend hours on end selling their products on late night TV.

I have several JML products, most of which I've never used. They look so good in the demonstrations that you can't resist, but then you get it home and realise that you have no need for it whatsoever.
I do still use my JML fountain pen though. It's cheap, but writes well.
You use pen and paper? Now you are showing your age =)

graham, i do the same. and i even do the classic oldie shaking of the head followed by a lecture on "kids these days".. :(
josh: yes i do, so youd win hands down, however, i know a female's *natural* biological clock is tick tock tickiing so it does involve some deep sighs on days when the energy isnt quite at its usual peak :-)
anyway! for some positive reminiscing: in my days black jacks were for a penny from the shop across the road so too were those fruit salad sweets. and jawbreakers? you could buy 3 for 5p. or was it 10p? i forget..
Yeah, time does fly.
I haven't listened to Utah Saints in 10yrs odd years, until now. Thanks. I find it hard to believe that I was listening to NWA at school.
I can't recall who but somebody said you're as old as you feel.
Sofi, I know way too many girls who got married and had kids at a young age and regret doing so for no other reason than they thought it was the right thing to do at that age. Glad you're not one!
I think they were 5p, though I loved fruit salads, I didn't acquire a taste for black jacks until much later in life....
Muhamad, admit it, you did the running man when you saw that video!
Funny you should say that, it was just the other day I was saying: “you're only as old as you feel”.

although you missed my point (self pitying over and done with, BTW!), i also know of folk who are married and not entirely happy. but what i didnt pick up from these, albeit few, examples (i know way more single than taken :p ) not one regrets having a baby :-)
i didnt like black jacks until much later too but, this is one of those rare moments in life, it was all thanks to peer pressure and whose tongue was darker/est than the rest. i ddint even realise i was competitive from a young age until now..
I STILL CANT BELIEVE JURASSIC PARK + 15 years ago!
Yep, I've been known to miss the point.
If you live or work anywhere near Covent Garden this place is worth a visit:

It'll make you feel like a kid in a... umm, candy shop! =)
:-) Yeah, I did. I can also do a pretty good impression of Jackson prancing around.
Hee hee!
