This Season's Must Have

I know nothing about fashion or what to wear when, sure I'm unlikely to turn up to a non-luau-themed wedding wearing a loud Hawaiian shirt and Bermuda shorts but generally speaking, when it comes to cloths, I'm a bit lost at sea. I figure what most people do is judge others based on what they have read in fashion magazines and on TV.

While waiting for a couple of friends the other day, I spot Gok Wan (though I mistakingly referred to him as Gok Wang to a friend, live and learn) walking across the street and thought this is an ideal opportunity for me to figure out what I should be wearing based on what he was.

As I see it, black is back in, yes brown was the new black but that's old now so brown is actually now the old new black and black is now the new old black brown. Also, it would seem, an essential accessory to have at the moment is a bodyguard to keep away the thousands of screaming fans you have; it wasn't, at this point, clear if anyone else had recognised him but I'm sure the the bodyguard would have jumped into action if someone had.

I should point out that fashion can be expensive but as Wan himself says, you don't need to spend a fortune, you can make something budget look designer. I'll take his advice and this season, I'll mostly be accompanied by a large, official-looking, mate with an ear-piece....

I thought purple was the new black!

Well that's just confused matters, do you mean purple is the new brown which was the new black or purple is the new new black which is the same as the old black..... and where does green fit into this master plan?

Oh, I missed the memo about brown. (Must go hide my face in disgrace :P).

Gok Wang! Maybe Wang is the new Wan?

Zany, no, you must take this newly acquired knowledge and spread the word, last season's colors are important!

Ariane, so Wang is waxing as wan is wanning, more 'w's than a Johnathan Woss speech.

Was that Dang Lin-Wang?

This may be a naive question, but who actually decides on new fashions? People like Go Wank feverishly spread the gospel but to whom do they look for leadership? I deplore the very idea of fashion, but then I do wear black 90% of the time. I just don't want to hear some self-important prick telling me that stripes are out this season while shaking his head in dismay. Fuck you! I paid ten quid for this shirt and I've only had it three years!

sounds like you're feeling a touch victimised by fashion there, graham. why don't you slip into something more comfortable instead...

Anon, thanks, Dwayne Pipe made me wet myself!

Graham, I agree whole heartedly! I don't believe there is a 'head' or leader as such, it just sort of happens and I guess people like Gok's Wang act like journalists who analyze the trends and report to the general public....

ER, welcome back, your verbosity has been missed amongst these pages of late.

thanks josh!
and, at least, unlike Sarah Palin, you didn't refer to my ramblings as 'verbage' (not that Sarah Palin as referred to my ramblings at all, you understand, but rather to those of the elder statesman often seen standing in her shadow, and, quite naturally, getting her verbiage wrong in the process...)

Gok Wan really annoys me for some reason, as do the Trinny and Susannah pair. grr. Maybe i'm just jealous that i'm not stylish enough to conform to the latest trends and instead walk around in Sofi's season styles. Hey, i'm almost a mini celebrity in my own head (cos i certainly dont notice any other celebrity on the streets of Londres). How cool am i?

ER, I've not noticed the excessive use of verbiage by Palin, just out of interest, is verbagé a real word? I like the sound of it.....

Sofi, you are indeed very cool and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! I must admit I've not given a single thought to Trinny or Susannah.
